Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
As we age, we naturally begin to collect excess fat around our midsections. In some cases, this fat hangs low and causes skin to stretch and sag. Fortunately, Dr. Stafford R. Broumand offers abdominoplasty to Manhattan patients who are seeking to reduce the size of their midsections and remove unwanted fat deposits from the area.
Abdominoplasty, also referred to as a tummy tuck, can be performed in our New York City office to reduce the size and weight of the abdominal area. During abdominoplasty, Manhattan surgeon Stafford R. Broumand will make a large incision below the belly, usually extending from one hipbone to the other. Another incision will then be made to separate the naval from the abdominal tissue. Once the incisions have been made, the skin will gently be removed from the underlying muscle and tissue and pulled away from the area. The muscles will then be reshaped and pulled together to narrow the waistline and flatten the abdominal area. In some cases, excess fat will be removed with liposuction in addition to the tummy tuck procedure. Finally, the muscles are stitched together in their new location and the skin is re-draped over the abdomen. The incisions will be closed with sutures, completing the tummy tuck. New York City patients are often in surgery between 2-5 hours, depending on the amount of work necessary to complete the procedure.
The best candidates for abdominoplasty at our Manhattan facility are those with large amounts of excess fat gathered primarily in the abdominal area. Most of our successful tummy tuck patients have previously been unable to reduce the size of their abdomens through diet and exercise alone.
Liposuction
While a healthy diet and consistent exercise are the best ways to maintain one’s weight, sometimes, stubborn fat deposits appear and will not respond to traditional methods of weight loss. In such cases, one may want to undergo liposuction. Manhattan patients seeking liposuction can undergo this procedure at our facility.
Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove stubborn fat deposits that have not responded to weight loss efforts by the patient. Liposuction at our New York office can be performed on virtually any area of the body, including arms, thighs, buttocks, stomach, and neck. Liposuction begins with small incisions into the treatment area. Next, a solution made of saline and other chemicals is inserted into the incisions to bond the fat together, making it easier to remove. One the fat has clumped together, a small tube is inserted into the treatment area and a powerful vacuum is used to suck the fat from the body. Once all the fat has been removed, any additional skin will be trimmed away and the incisions will be closed with small sutures, completing liposuction. Manhattan patients at our facility may be asked to wear a body-shaping garment for several weeks to help maintain their new shape formed from liposuction. New York patients are usually in surgery for varying lengths of time, depending on the size and location of the treatment area.
